Valerie Bobosh, Piano Teacher

Student learning piano.

With over 30 years experience teaching and both a Bachelor's and Master's degrees in music education, I can say I love teaching and learning.
My students' ages range from preschool through retirees and come from various backgrounds in music appreciation.
My objectives as a piano teacher are to provide:

  • an understanding of piano technique and ability in performing expressively
  • a superior level of note-reading and music theory
  • an increased appreciation for music, music history, and piano literature
  • skills in becoming a self-sufficient musician.

My Studio

I offer lessons from my Kettering studio Monday through Thursday. Most of my students are scheduled "after school" hours, but some come earlier. I also teach one day a week at the Wyoming Fine Arts Center in Cincinnati.
Students may reserve weekly 30, 45 or 60 min individual lessons, plus have the option of participating in monthly group lessons - something highly motivational and fun for the younger students.
My teaching calendar year is divided into seasons. The fall, winter and spring terms schedule 12 lessons. The summer term is more flexible due to summer activities but I do require a minimum of 8 lessons, or the equivalent of 8 lessons, that can be adapted around your schedule. Monthly group lessons are scheduled on Sunday afternoons.
Recitals are offered in the fall, winter and spring terms. Participation is not mandatory but encouraged.
A parent or caregiver, preferably the adult working with the student at home, is expected to attend lessons. This is for the benefit of the student and the progress of the lessons. This also helps the adult learn ideas for home practicing sessions.

Lesson Policy

  • Once registered for lessons, students are required to attend their scheduled lesson time. One make-up lesson is allowed per term.
  • With at least 48 hours advanced notice and if there is the opportunity, lessons may be rescheduled - I do try to accommodate as much as is possible. You may also swap lesson times with another student as needed, but please inform me of the change.
  • Lessons cancelled with less than 48 hours notice most likely will not be made up.
  • No missed lessons will be carried over to the next term.
  • In the rare occasion of extreme weather conditions, cancelled lessons will not be made-up.

Tuition policy

  • Tuition is due before the beginning of the term to reserve the scheduled 12 lessons. Rates begin at $25 per individual 30 min lesson or 45 min group lesson. Individual lesson rates increase accordingly with the increase of lesson durations.
  • New students may begin lessons at any time and not just at the beginning of the term. Tuition will be adjusted according.
  • A 10% discount is offered for siblings, except in the summer term.
  • Late payments will be charged a $10 late fee.
  • Please contact me if there are any payment concerns.
  • Tuition is non-refundable.
